Arkells are a rock band from Ontaria who signed with Dine Alone Records, a label for other acts such as City and Colour and Bedouin Soundclash (who may appear in future posts). They released the EP, "Deadlines" in 2007 and produced Jackson Square in 2008, which contains the five songs on Deadlines as well as seven more songs. Arkells' sound is similar to that of The Killers, combining modern rock riffs with energetic melodies and a touch of raw power. Their driving beats induce uncontrolable foot tapping and the occasional urge to throw your whole body into the music. John Lennon is a song I'll always let play when shuffling through the recesses of my iPod and Heart of the City is an excellent choice for walking down the streets of New York, but if you like one track you'll probably like them all.
