Singer/Songwriter Matt Costa made the switch from professional skateboarder to musician after an unfortunate injury in 2003. Since then he has produced some singles, a couple EPs, and two full-length albums, including "Unfamiliar Faces" which was released in 2008. Matt's west coast roots are evident in some of his lighthearted, carefree songs such as Emergency Room and Mr. Pitiful (which you may recognize from iPhone commercials or the I Love You, Man OST). But the cheery optimism in those tracks is countered by more somber sounds in Heart of Stone and Bound. This almost bi-polar personality throughout the album means that I select tracks based on my mood rather than listening to the entirety in a single sitting. Keep Mr. Pitiful, Emergency Room, Miss Magnolia, and maybe Lilacs in a separate playlist and save the other tracks for quieter times.
