"Fear and Love," released in April 2008, is We Shot The Moon's debut album. The group was formed when Waking Ashland (to be featured in a later post), the band of lead singer Jonathan Jones, broke up in 2007. Performing briefly under the name "The Honor Roll" before producing Fear and Love, We Shot The Moon infuses great melodies with alluring piano and solid vocals. Upon Waking She Found Herself a Cougar (a title I still do not quite understand) is a driving rock song with a rolling alternation of subdued verses and a forceful chorus powered by electric guitar riffs. My personal favorite, Sway Your Head, opens with a simple piano solo and then adds more energy with a highly optimistic refrain meant to put you in a good mood and leave you there for as long as the song stays in your head. In fact most of these songs offer a positive, uplifting message, which is definitely appreciated when they pop-up on shuffle. Listening to the album straight through may be an overdose of optimism, but mix some Fear and Love into your playlists and you won't be disappointed.
